Family Paddling Day 2009

On the warm, evening of Thursday, June 25th, over 30 canoes converged on the Lakefield Beach, much to the interest of those enjoying a cool dip in the Otonabee River. The event was called the ‘Family Paddling Day’ in celebration of National Canoe Day, celebrated across our nation every June 26th. The threat of rain didn't deter over 60 paddlers with their families from enjoying an evening on the water, followed by a hot dog roast and campfire on the Lakefield Beach sponsored by the Lakefield Trail Stewardship Committee. Special thanks to Graham Wilkins and his crew from Adventure Fitness for supplying canoes and kayaks and to Jenny MacKenzie from the Lakefield Pantry for donating the ‘Canoe Cake’.
